Sara Ali Khan’s debut film, Kedarnath to unfold on screens on 21 December,2018

The release date of director Abhishek Kapoor’s upcoming drama Kedarnath, starring Sushant Singh Rajput and Saif Ali Khan’s daughter Sara Ali Khan in her Bollywood debut, has been postponed. If all goes well, the film will arrive in theaters on December 21, 2018 , reveals producer Prerna Arora of KriArj Entertainment.

Saif Ali Khan’s daughter plays the protagonist in Kedarnath and she will be seen opposite Sushant Singh Rajput.

The project is being produced by KriArj Entertainment, T-Series, Guy In The Sky Pictures in association with Balaji Motion Pictures.

Directed by Abhishek Kapoor, Kedernath is a love story that takes place in the course of a pilgrimage. The film is set against the holy temple town of Kedarnath in Uttarakhand, a state known for Hindu temples and pilgrimage centres spread all over it.

“We have locked December 21, 2018 for Kedarnath. It will be the seventh film from KriArj Entertainment in 2018,” said Prerna Arora.
A media report, earlier in the day, read that the film has been postponed owing to a crucial sequence in the film that requires the set of Kedarnath to be built in Mumbai. In an interview, Prerna divulged the details about the revised release date and the reason behind it.
“KriArj first has Padman with Akshay sir (Kumar). It has got advanced from April to January. It will be followed by Pari and Parmanu. Then Kedarnath, which I had to release by June. Being a very big film, there will be a lot of VFX, computer graphics and set building. When we wrapped up its shooting from Kedarnath (in Uttarakhand) and came to Mumbai, it was raining here. So, we could not build the set here because it’s huge. Now, we will be shooting in Mumbai from later this month or December. We will finish all the outdoor shoots and then we will build the whole set of Kedarnath somewhere in outskirts of Mumbai. Then there’s no hurry. We can start by April and by May-June we will be wrapping up the set schedule.”

Hence, that leaves the producer with no other choice than to push the release date. Also, the makers want to give their ambitious project the much-needed wide release.
“I have four films releasing next year, including Vishal sir’s (Bhardwaj’s co-production starring Deepika Padukone and Irrfan Khan). So, I don’t want to release Kedarnath amid all of this. It’s a big film for me. So, I am looking at maybe January 26, 2019. The film needs to come at the right date. This is a business and a strategic call by KriArj to release out next big film widely. I am working on it (locking the January 26 date).”
