Respect BJP Workers Else Ready To Face The Music: Fiat Issued To Warn Officials In UP

In the wake of woman cop who took on BJP leader, workers in Utter Pradesh, yet another bizarre official fiat has surfaced in form of an official letter by the superior to its staff asking them to behave respectfully with the ruling party BJP members. In an official letter issued by the Superintendent of the Mahanagar Vidyut Vitaran Nigam Ltd. Lucknow (MVVNL) asking staff to behave respectfully with the BJP members and warned them of disciplinary action if they found wanting in their behaviours towards ruling party workers.

Essentially it is nothing but a masked threat to office bearers – saying comply to BJP workers, or else …

Last weekend in a similar kind of incident the Uttar Pradesh Police transferred DSP Shrestha Thakur, less than a fortnight after a video of her rebuking local BJP leaders went viral on social media. Thakur, a state police service officer, was posted as Circle Officer at Syana in Bulandshahr district. The 2012-batch Provincial Police Service officer has now been posted as Circle Officer for Bahraich district.

In the video that went viral, Thakur is seen confronting BJP’s Syana city president Mukesh Bhardwaj and other party workers. The altercation took place on June 22 after the police fined BJP worker Pramod Kumar for riding a motorcycle “without any documents, number plate and helmet”. Pramod called local BJP office-bearers, including Bhardwaj, after an altercation with the policemen.

In the video, Thakur is seen telling the BJP leader that she would ask policemen to stop checking vehicles if he got a letter from the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, asking her to do so. On being contacted, Thakur refused to comment. However, she posted a brief message on her Facebook page making her intention clear of not tolerating pressure tactics of ruling class.

Is this what the state of Uttar Pradesh has come to? Is simply being a member of the ruling party enough to demand respect from government employees, who work hard towards the betterment of the state? Is a party member entitled to be held in the same regard as Ministers or party leaders only because they belong to a certain party? Are these despotic ideas meant to be enforced by threats?

Governance seems to be at its low point as the recent spate of fear mongering has taken over the state of UP, ever since the BJP has come into power, recent events display a blatant interference in the everyday functioning of government offices and even the public. Yogi Adityanath seems to be taking a reckless approach to fulfilling his ‘Hindutva state’ vision with the iron hand which defies all norms of democratic ethos and governance.
