Oops! Now Modi Government Will Decide How Much You Will Eat. And It’s a Good Sign
Mentioning food wastage as the biggest evil in the society in his Mann Ki Baat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led NDA government had taken the same step in the direction.
In an attempt to overcome the food wastage by hotels, which contributes the major portion, NDA government will soon fix portion sizes of dishes served by the star rated hotels.
The ministry is drafting a questionnaire for hotels and restaurants to explain what dish sizes they should serve to a customer, as reported by an English Daily. “If a person can eat only two prawns, why should he or she be served six? If a person eats two idlis, why serve four! It’s wastage of food and money. People have to pay for something that they don’t eat,” said Ram Vilas Paswan, minister of consumer affairs, food and public distribution.
Following the vision of PM Modi over food wastage, Paswan said, “The ministry will soon issue instructions to these hotels about the amount of food to be served”
Restricting the order only to the star rated hotels, Paswan said that Dhabas won’t fall under the lens of this rule and will be only applicable for standard hotels.
This is in addition to a slew of pro-consumer measures; the ministry has incorporated in a new draft bill to amend Consumer Protection Act.
Under the new bill, the celebs who were seen endorsing the misleading advertisement will now have to face the wrath of the new provision. In the new provision, the bill now has a provision to send the celeb to jail the manufacturer of the product
Under the new proposal, the punishment would range from a fine to cancellation of license to a jail term, depending on the frequency of the offence.
