Meet Rishi Sunak, the man who could be UK’s next PM

July 7, 2022 (New Delhi): Indian-origin Rishi Sunak is in line to become the next PM of the UK. Sunak is leading the race for the post of Prime Minister in British politics. There is a lot of discord in the party including the opposition on Boris Johnson, surrounded by many allegations. Sunak is getting the highest bid in the bookmaker. In fact, a leading UK bookmaker company has claimed that PM Boris Johnson is going to resign soon. After Johnson, the choice of Britishers is Indian-origin Rishi Sunak.

According to the media, 57-year-old Johnson’s term is about to end. He can resign from the post of PM at any time. Johnson is facing pressure not only from the opposition but also from within his own Conservative Party in the wake of the revelations of a drinks party in Downing Street. The UK PM is accused of having a liquor party in Downing Street (10, Downing Street) during the country’s first COVID-19 lockdown in May 2020. About 100 people were present in this party. Boris Johnson joined it with wife Carrie.

It is also being said in the British media that if Boris leaves the post, then Rishi Sunak can become the PM of the country. Sunak is the Finance Minister of the country.

Chancellor Sunak is Indian by origin. Rishi Sunak was born on May 12, 1980. The parents hail from Punjab, India, who first went to South Africa. Then settled in London. Father is doctor and mother is chemist. Rishi Sunak has studied Economics, Philosophy and Political Science from Oxford University. He also holds an MBA degree from Stanford University, USA. Before joining politics, Rishi worked in investment bank Goldman Sachs and hedge funds. His wife Akshata is the daughter of Narayan Murthi, the co-founder of the multinational Indian software company Infosys. Akshata is a director at Catamaran Ventures. She also runs her own fashion label and is one of the richest women in Britain.

Betfair’s Sam Rosbottom told ‘Wales Online’: “In terms of replacements, long-time favorite Rishi Sunak is still leading in betting at 15/8, with (Foreign Secretary) Liz Truss at 11/4 and ( Cabinet Minister) Michael Gove is the next two most likely options on 6/1.” Other senior leaders include former Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt 8/1 and Indian-origin Home Secretary Priti Patel, Health Secretary Sajid Javid and Cabinet Minister Oliver Dowden in fifth with 14/1.
