Madhya Pradesh doctor who treats people for Rs 20 gets Padma Shri honour…

26 January 2023 ( New Delhi) : Dr. Munishwar Chander Davar, who still accepts a nominal Rs 20 as payment from his patients, has been honored with the Padma Shri award.The list of over 100 national residents selected to receive the Padma Awards 2023 was released by the Center on the eve of the 74th Republic Day. There are many famous people on the list, including late politician Mulayam Singh Yadav and Indian activist Sudha. Dr. MC Davar, a 77-year-old physician from Madhya Pradesh district of Jabalpur, has received the Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award from the Government of India. The list of Padma Awards 2023 includes a total of 106 persons, including Padma Shri, India’s second highest civilian honor after Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Bharat Ratna.

A doctor from Madhya Pradesh, who treats people for just Rs 20, has been awarded the Padma Shri, the country’s fourth highest civilian award.
Dr. Munishwar Chander Davar, 77, sees around 200 patients daily and accepts a measly amount of Rs 20 as payment from them. After partition, Dr. Davar came to India. He was born on January 16, 1946 in Punjab, Pakistan. He graduated from Jabalpur in 1967 with MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery). In addition, he spent about a year in the Indian Army during the Indo-Pak War of 1971. Since then, they have been providing extremely low cost medical services to the residents of Jabalpur. He initially treated patients for just Rs 2 and his current service charge is just Rs 20.

Dr Davar after receiving the Padma Shri award said that sometimes hard work pays off, even if it takes time. “I have received this award as a result of that and with the blessings of the people,” he said. Speaking about his life experiences, he said that there were undoubtedly conversations in the house about the appropriateness of such a meager fee, but there was no disagreement.
Dr. Davar’s son Rishi said, “We used to think that awards are given only because of political reach, but the way the government is finding and honoring people working on the ground, it is a great thing is, and our father has received this award.” Dr. Davar’s daughter-in-law Suchita said that the family and the city should be very proud of this.
