Kapil Dev: Man behind the making of team India

Kapil Dev is known to be India’s best all-rounder. He walked us into our first world cup victory in 1983 and has been recognised as Indian Cricketer of the Century. Born on January 6, 1959, the former Indian cricketer is one of the most revolutionary sports person who has broken several records. The right arm pace bowler is known to be the only bowler to have taken 400 wickets, and has also scored more than 5000 runs in test matches. The talented cricketer has given incredible performances in various matches and made his reign clear.

While the talented pacer has given some unique deliveries on the field, one of the best episodes of Kapil Dev’s bowling is still said to be the style with which he marked South Africa’s Peter Kristen. During the friendship series between India and South Africa, Peter Kirsten had been warned twice for backing up too far. The bowler noticed Kirsten making the same move again and without any warnings knocked off the bails at the non-striker’s end. When he made an appeal, the umpire could not help but raise the finger as in all technicalities Kirsten was out. But this move brought in a lot of tension on the field and it can still be felt years later in the video!

Happy birthday Kapil sir
