India have great chance of winning maiden series in South Africa believs Rahul Dravid

Former India captain Rahul Dravid believes that the current India team has a ‘great chance’ of winning a maiden three-match Test series in South Africa starting on January 5, as the Virat Kohli-led team has all the bases covered. Supporting his statement, Dravid said that the depth of the current side multiplies India’s chances of defeating the Proteas in their own backyard. The former Indian great further said that the squad has good quality pacers, spinners, which is ably supported by all-rounder Hardik Pandya.

Virat Kohli led side recently prevailed 1-0 against Sri Lanka at home to seal their record-equalling ninth consecutive test series win. Three of those nine triumphs have come against an unsettled and inexperienced Sri Lankan side. India’s six other series wins in this period includes home triumphs against South Africa, New Zealand, England, Bangladesh and Australia, as well as a victory over West Indies in the Caribbean.

“I think we have a great chance this time looking at the depth of the current side,” says Dravid.

“We have got some quality quicks, we have the opportunity of playing the all-rounder (Hardik Pandya) if we need to. We have got quality spinners in Jadeja and Ashwin. What also excites me is that all our batsmen have been to South Africa before and they have the experience of 40-50 Tests,” he added.

“Having said that, you do need a bit of luck in those conditions, a bit of rub of the green. If we get that, I am very confident about our chances,” Dravid remarked.

The veteran batsman and India A, U-19 Coach Rahul Dravid talked on Men in Blue’s prospect in South Africa, the amount of cricket played among other things.

India will be on a long tour of South Africa where it will play 3 Test matches, 6 ODI and 3 T20I. The team will leave for South Africa on 27th of December right after the series with Sri Lanka ends on 24th.

“It’s going to be a tough challenge for sure, you have to play well to win with what’s given. But I feel this team has what it takes to win. They have been performing really really well at home”

In recent times, Kohli has been vocal about resting players in between and the amount of cricket that Team India has been playing. Factoring the issue raised by the Indian skipper BCCI has agreed to reduce the number of matches in a calendar year. The Wall, Dravid, also thinks that there should be some resting period in between two series. India has only two days in between before they fly out to South Africa.

Hope for the best result as India will be playing in overseas conditions after a long span of time. Do share your comments on the below comment section.
