Dalit girl set on fire while defecating in UP village

On Saturday, a 13 year old Dalit girl from UP’s Balrampur. who was burned to death in a village under the Haraiya Police Station jurisdiction, an officer said.

The investigation is still going on as Police are still to figure out how and why she was set on fire.

The girl went to a field near her village on Friday evening to relieve herself, said Additional Superintendent of Police Yogesh Kumar.

After an hour passed without her returning, her family began looking for her. Villagers informed them that a nearby field was on fire. When they reached the field, they discovered the girl dead, the ASP explained.

Her burnt body was sent for post-mortem, the officer added, noting that police are investigating the incident.
