Dale Steyn apologizes for saying Cricket gets forgotten in IPL.

South African pacer Dale Steyn on Wednesday apologized for his criticism of the Indian Premier League saying that he never intended to degrade or insult the world’s biggest franchise-based T20 Tournament.

He blamed social media and added that his words were misunderstood and wrongfully interpreted.

Speaking to media personnel, Steyn yesterday explained his decision to stay away from IPL 2021. He said “When you go to IPL, there are such big squads and there are so many big names and there’s so much emphasis on the amount of money that the players earn that sometimes, somewhere along the line the cricket gets forgotten,”

South African pacer Dale Steyn had also said that global T20 Tournaments like Pakistan Super League (PSL) were more rewarding than the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Apologizing for his comment, Dale Steyn today on social media said that “IPL has been nothing short of amazing in my career, as well as other players too. My words were never intended to be degrading, insulting, or comparing any leagues. Social media and words out of context can often do that. My apologies if this has upset anyone. Much love,”

Interestingly Dale Steyn had opted out of the IPL 2021 auction which was held in Chennai on February 18.

Steyn’s decision led to RCB releasing him ahead of the auction. For the unversed the 37-year fast bowler Dale Steyn had played 95 IPL matches and scalped 97 wickets.
