Mistry also stated that Tharoor’s representative informed his office that he will file his nomination for president on September 30 at 11 a.m. Mistry stated that he met with party chief Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday and handed over her voter ID card. He also informed Gandhi of the status of the process, including how many nomination forms had been collected and the number of delegates.

Shashi Tharoor got low support from the party leaders

As the name of Shashi Tharoor for the Congress president election started doing the rounds, some party leaders either disapproved of his candidature or some thought he wouldn’t contest at all. Congress Kerala MP Kodikunnil Suresh earlier said that Shashi Tharoor is an international man and he doesn’t think that Thiruvananthapuram MP would contest the Congress presidential polls. K Suresh also said that they are also requesting Rahul Gandhi to become the Congress chief.

What is the last date for submission of nomination papers?

Mistry stated that Bansal received the nomination forms from his office on Monday and that it could be “as a supporter” of someone. According to a party announcement, the nomination process for the election will take place from September 24 to September 30. The deadline for submitting nomination papers is October 1st, and the deadline for withdrawing a nomination is October 8th. The final list of candidates will be released on October 8th at 5 p.m.
