Ashes 2017: Australia claim series victory over England despite pitch controversy
THERE is only one statistic that truly matters. Australia 3, England 0. Australia wins the Ashes after England fall 3-0 behind in Perth.
But behind the obvious scoreline, the Perth defeat has earned the tourists a host of unwanted and ugly records that read poorly for Trevor Bayliss, Joe Root and several other players.
Conversely, Australia has achieved a feat that predates Sir Donald Bradman’s Test career.
Apart from the delay caused by the covers malfunctioning, it was all very straightforward for Australia as they swept aside the England tail once again. They are good value for their 3-0 lead.
Credit needs to be given to Australia’s bowlers who have been fantastic from the beginning of this series until they wrapped up a victory with two matches to play. But England have been terrible with the bat this series. Only Dawid Malan’s reputation has been enhanced, every other player has either stood still or has gone backwards.
joe Root admitted England have been outclassed by Australia as they surrendered the Ashes before Christmas following a comprehensive innings-and-41-run defeat in Perth.
England needed to bat for most, if not all, of the final day to keep the series alive but Josh Hazlewood hastened their demise with five for 48 as the tourists lurched from an overnight 132 for four to 218 all out.
Visitors coach Trevor Bayliss voiced his concerns to broadcasters, during morning deliberations, that conditions had been rendered too “difficult … maybe even a little dangerous”.
But Root said: “When we got here this morning it definitely wasn’t fit to play, it obviously dried up as the sun and wind got to it and they obviously worked very hard to get it right. I think by the end there it was probably fit to play.
So guys, whats your opinion on the same? Will Australia whitewash England in this Ashes series or England will win any 1 match out of left 2 matches?
