A Decade after The Great Khali’s World Heavyweight title run, another Indian wrestler has become a WWE Champion.
Don’t hinder the Jinder!
Jinder Mahal who made his WWE return less than a year back- and has been a jobber for a long time in WWE has now become the first ever Indian wrestler to hold the prestigious WWE title by beating veteran Randy Orton at WWE pay-per-view Backlash.
The other ‘Indian’ wrestler who held the major title in WWE was The Great Khali but even he did not get his hands on WWE title, it was a World Heavyweight Championship which was a secondary title in WWE that time.
Jinder Mahal is not entirely an Indian per say, given his Canadian upbringing but Jinder gimmick in WWE identifies himself as Punjabi. The recent push of Jinder, which saw him pick up a clean pinfall win over Randy Orton, has shocked the pro-wrestling world but it is indeed a pleasant surprise for Indian WWE fans.
According to one pro-wrestling Dave Meltzer, WWE CEO Vince Mcmahon is the reason behind the push of Jinder Mahal, Vince wants to expand its WWE Network business in India and Jinder dedication towards his physique and Indian heritage has convinced Vince to give him a push he deserved.
Well it remains to be seen whether this new push will give Jinder and WWE more success in Indian market, or not. Here’s Jinder wishing WWE universe for his big victory:
