POLICE OFFICER KILLED IN MASS SHOOTING

A gunman opened fire in a tower in Manhattan killing four people including a NYPD officer , identified as Didarul Islam . He was working off -hours  as a security guard. Islam was from Bangladesh,  was married and was father of two whose wife was pregnant.  The New York mayor described him as a ‘True Blue Hero’.

This incident took place in the evening rush hour in the lobby of Park Avenue tower in Midtown Manhattan. The gunman , identified as Shane Tamura , was a resident of Las Vegas, a 27-year old , he was mentally ill and drove cross country to Vegas in recent days. After carrying out the shooting spree , he killed himself . He allegedly opened a fire immediately after entering the tower’s lobby. Police said that he let a woman go out of the elevator unharmed.

He killed four people , three other victims included two men and a woman. The third male was severely wounded and is fighting for his life in the nearby hospital in New York.  Jessica Tisch , the New York City police commissioner, said that the lone shooter has been neutralized. New York police also said that the shooter acted alone and is dead.
