No Fear No Favour

5-minute morning routines to supercharge your mind, body and metabolism.

If you dread Tuesday morning rolling around, then take a few minutes each day to set yourself straight and get into a routine that actually works for you.
If you are having trouble doing that, use some of these 5-minute morning routines to help you supercharge your mind, body, and metabolism so that you can take on the day, the week, and be ready for anything.

1) Loosen Your Muscles

People often stretch when they wake up because they are tired and want to wake up a bit, but there’s actually a good reason to stretch a bit longer: circulation of the blood helps to warm the muscles and get them ready for the day.

2) Get Up When the Alarm Rings

While it seems like a good idea to set the alarm a few minutes early so you can hit the snooze button, you are better served just jumping out of bed as soon as the alarm goes off.

This prevents any temptation to roll over and go back to sleep. Plus, you’ll feel ready to take on the day sooner than you think when you get out of bed, rather than lazing around for a while.

3) Create Routine

When you go to bed, tell yourself that you’ll sleep for a certain amount of time and no matter what is on your plate for the next day, decide to get out of bed anyway. Setting your internal clock, or creating a routine for getting up in the morning, is the best way to feel ready to get out of bed when that alarm clock rings.

4) Water First

Before you do much of anything, grab a glass of water and drink it. If you don’t like the taste of water add some lemon to it. This can help get your digestive tract moving and reduce feelings of bloat left behind from the day before.

Don’t replace a glass of water with coffee – clean, fresh water is best for your body first thing in the morning.

5) Lift Those Legs

If you don’t have time to get in a full workout in the morning, make time to do some leg stretches and squats to get the big muscles in your body warmed up and ready to take on the day.

Many people do this while they are brushing their teeth or combing their hair. Some simple leg raises can really help you feel awake and work out the kinks in the morning.

6) Avoid Your Phone

While it may seem impossible to put your phone down at the end of the day, or any time of the day for that matter, try avoiding your phone for the first few minutes of your day so that your first thoughts are negative about work, life, or errands that you need to run that day.

Get dressed, have breakfast, and check your planner before you check your phone. It will help you feel less anxious about the day.

7) Eat Some Food

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but what you put into your body is as important as eating in general. If you fill up on doughnuts and coffee, you are going to hit the 3 o’clock wall by noon.

If you have foods rich in nutrients and minerals, you’ll be better equipped to take on the day. Try eggs, spinach, fruit, and water to get your day started.

8) Set Out Your Clothes

Rather than spend time fretting over what to wear each day, take 5 minutes before your shower to set out your clothes for the day. Some people like to do this before they go to bed.

Either way, make sure you decide what you’ll wear for the day before you start getting ready. It will save you a lot of time and energy later in the morning.

9) Quiet Your Mind

Some people like to spend a few minutes meditating in the morning. They are hippies, they are practical and know that having a quiet mind is the best way to start the day. Some people see it as a reset and don’t carry yesterday’s negativity to today.

10) Don’t Ignore The Weekend

While it is tempting to sleep until noon on Saturday, try getting out of bed at your usual time and make the most of your weekend to maintain your weekday routine.
