Union Home Minister and Chief of the BJP Amit Shah has not been a very popular man in the Karnataka unit of his party these past few days.
He made Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa wait for days before allowing him to expand his state cabinet and then delayed again giving him the go-ahead to assign portfolios a full month after he took office.
Shah and Yediyurappa never got along and the BJP has plenty of proof of Yediyurappa’s influence in his home state-he ensured the party won 25 of 28 seats in the general election; his candidates won 12 of 15 seats in by-elections in December.
Recently a new leader was appointed – Nalin Kumar Kateel, MP from Mangalore, as the state BJP president.
When Kateel took over his new position on Tuesday, at least two senior leaders, already unhappy with their portfolios, became conspicuous by their absence.
Kateel took over at Bengaluru around the time, leader of the party, and minister of Karnataka B. Supporters of Sriramulu in the Koppal constituency hit the streets in a protest setting fire to Shah and B.L posters. Santosh, the National Secretary-General (organization) who was seeking advice from the high command to choose the ministers and their portfolios.
