Unrest Grips Manipur: Bomb Blast and Arson Incidents Rock Imphal

On Friday night a bomb blast took place in Manipur’s Imphal, where one person was killed and on the other hand another sustained injury, police officials said on Saturday.
However, took place around 9:30pm at the Dhanamanjuri University complex near the office of All Manipur Students Union (AMSU) at Thangmeiband in Imphal West district, said police in it’s statement to the reporters.
“Two persons sustained injuries in the blast, and they were soon rushed to the hospital for treatment. One of them cease the injuries, but the other is undergoing medical treatment,” a police office aware of the matter said in his statement.
Whereas, the police have identified the demised as Oinam Kenegy (24) and the injured as Salam Michael (24), both are the resident of Bishnupur district. No organization have taken responsibility of the blast, whereas the culprit still unknown.
Soon after the incident, a team of police rushed to the site and seal off the area. The investigation is underway to identify and arrest who are responsible for the incident and the explosive which is used, which is identified as grenade, police said.

In a separate incident, where the United Committee Manipur (UCM) was reportedly set on fire during the early hours of Saturday in Lamphel, Imphal West district, purportedly by a group of individuals as per described. Formed in 2001 to protect the territorial integrity of Manipur, UCM is an umbrella organisation of several civil society groups.
As per the officials, the incident took place on Saturday around 12:30 where there had been no reports of injuries in the accident. A probe is underway to nab all the culprits.
Whereas, Manipur has been roiled up with ethnic clashes between the Meitei and Kuki communities since May last year. The violence has claimed at least 215 lives and displaced around 50,000 people.
