Narendra Modi’s 2024 Cabinet: Comprehensive List of Ministers in the Modi Government 3.0
Prime Minister-designate Narendra Modi is set to be sworn in on Sunday for a third consecutive term, leading a coalition government following two full tenures where the BJP enjoyed a majority. At 73, Modi will match the record of Jawaharlal Nehru, India’s first prime minister, who secured victories in the 1952, 1957, and 1962 general elections.
This term will see significant participation from coalition partners. Telugu Desam Party (TDP) members K Ram Mohan Naidu and Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani from Andhra Pradesh are anticipated to join the Union Cabinet. Despite the BJP retaining power, it saw a reduction in seats, dropping to 240 from 303 in the Lok Sabha polls, falling short of the majority mark of 272. This underperformance has led to strategic consultations among senior BJP leaders, including Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, and party president J P Nadda, with allies such as N Chandrababu Naidu of TDP, Nitish Kumar of JD(U), and Eknath Shinde of Shiv Sena, to finalize their representation in the government.
Key portfolios like home, finance, defence, and external affairs, along with ministries of education and culture, are expected to remain with the BJP, while allies might secure five to eight cabinet positions. High-profile BJP leaders such as Amit Shah and Rajnath Singh are expected to retain their cabinet roles, while former chief ministers like Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Basavaraj Bommai, Manohar Lal Khattar, and Sarbananda Sonowal are strong candidates for ministerial positions.
In addition to BJP stalwarts, the new cabinet is likely to include allies such as Ram Mohan Naidu of TDP, Lalan Singh, Sanjay Jha, and Ram Nath Thakur of JD(U), and Chirag Paswan of Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas). Either Lalan Singh or Sanjay Jha will represent JD(U) in the cabinet.
