The pulse of India’s political landscape for the next half-decade is set to be determined as the vote counting for the Lok Sabha Elections 2024 commences on June 4. Amongst the states under scrutiny, Uttar Pradesh, boasting the largest share of Lok Sabha seats at 80, stands as the focal point of attention for political analysts.
As the counting progresses, the INDIA bloc takes an early lead with 43 seats, while the BJP-led NDA trails behind with 28 seats. The significance of this electoral battle is underscored by Uttar Pradesh’s pivotal role in shaping the national narrative.
The electoral battlefield of Uttar Pradesh features high-profile contenders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Rajnath Singh, Smriti Irani, Rahul Gandhi, Akhilesh Yadav, Dimple Yadav, and Dharmendra Yadav, among others. A total of 851 candidates, comprising 771 men and 80 women, vied for victory in the Lok Sabha Elections 2024 across the state’s constituencies. Notably, the Ghosi Lok Sabha constituency witnessed the highest number of contenders with 28, while Kaiserganj saw the participation of a minimum of four candidates.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi contested from the Varanasi constituency, seeking reelection. Union Minister Rajnath Singh aimed for another term as Lok Sabha MP from Lucknow, while Rahul Gandhi contested from Raebareli against BJP’s Dinesh Pratap Singh. The electoral fate of SP supremo Akhilesh Yadav, who contested from Kannauj against BJP’s Subrat Pathak, as well as leaders like Dimple Yadav and Dharmendra Yadav, hangs in the balance pending tomorrow’s vote counting.
Uttar Pradesh, a pivotal battleground in Indian politics, witnessed a voter turnout of 56.92% across the seven phases of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. This turnout reflects a marginal decrease of 2.19% compared to the previous elections, further emphasizing the significance of every ballot cast in shaping the state’s political landscape.
