Delhi Police cancels Munawar Faruqui’s show due to this reason
The Licensing Unit of Delhi Police has denied permission to stand-up comedian Munawwar Farooqui’s show in the national capital. The show was supposed to happen on Sunday. Earlier the Central District Police had written a report to the unit, stating that “the show will affect communal harmony in the area.”
Vishwa Hindu Parishad had threatened to protest
At the same time, earlier this week, Vishwa Hindu Parishad also wrote to Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora, demanding cancellation of Munawwar Farooqui’s show and said that VHP and Bajrang Dal workers will protest if the show is not cancelled. .
A week before the cancellation of the Delhi show, Bengaluru Police also denied permission to Munawwar Farooqui’s show ‘Dongri to Nowhere’ in the Karnataka capital, which was scheduled to take place on August 20. Police had said that the Bengaluru event was canceled as the organizers did not take permission to organize it in the city.
Notably, Jai Shri Ram Sena had lodged a complaint against the comedian and the organizers with Bengaluru Police Commissioner CH Pratap Reddy. The organization alleged in its complaint that Munawwar Farooqui has hurt Hindu sentiments by making derogatory remarks against Lord Ram and Goddess Sita in his show.
