“Case Filed Following Circulation of Manipulated Video Alleging Amit Shah’s Stance on Reservation”
In response to the circulation of a doctored video depicting Union Home Minister Amit Shah purportedly advocating for the elimination of reservation quotas for Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs), and Other Backward Classes (OBCs), the Delhi Police initiated legal action on Sunday.
The manipulated video, widely shared on social media platforms, has stirred controversy and raised allegations of spreading misinformation.
Consequently, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) lodged a complaint seeking punitive measures against those responsible for disseminating the video.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), responding to concerns regarding the video’s authenticity, prompted the Delhi Police to file a First Information Report (FIR) on Sunday. BJP spokesperson Amit Malviya denounced the video, asserting that it distorted Mr. Shah’s original statements made during a political rally, specifically regarding reservation quotas for Muslims in Telangana.
Malviya accused the Congress of spreading false information, warning of potential legal repercussions.
The controversy deepened as various social media accounts, including those linked to the Congress, shared the manipulated footage, alleging the BJP’s intent to abolish SC/ST reservation quotas.
BJP leaders criticized these claims, accusing the Congress of inciting social discord with fabricated narratives. The MHA’s complaint includes a detailed report identifying the sources responsible for sharing the doctored video.
With the FIR filed, the Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations (IFSO) Unit of the Delhi Police Special Cell has commenced an investigation into the origins of the falsified video.
