Agneepath Protests: Ruckus in UP against Agneepath on Saturday, buses were set on fire in Jaunpur, UP

June 18, 2022 (New Delhi): There has been a ruckus across the country regarding the new scheme of recruitment in the army, Agneepath. Youth are protesting on the streets regarding the recruitment of Agniveer. The flame of violence also spread in all the cities of Uttar Pradesh. At the same time, in Jaunpur district of UP, there is a demonstration for the second consecutive day against the Agneepath scheme. Hundreds of youths took to the streets on Saturday morning itself. On the Jaunpur-Prayagraj highway, the protesters damaged many vehicles, including many bikes, roadways buses.

According to the information received, the Jaunpur Prayagraj road was blocked for a quarter of an hour due to the demonstration of the youth. Common passers-by stood at a petrol pump out of fear and waited for the ruckus to subside. The disturbance which started at eight o’clock in the morning on Saturday was pacified at around 10.15 am. After this, traffic could start on Jaunpur Prayagraj road. An encounter also took place between the people who were rioting and the police. From one side the rioters were pelting stones and from the other side the policemen fired tear gas shells.

Angry youths pelted stones at policemen at Kuchman station in protest against the Agneepath scheme in Chandauli. Meanwhile, Sub Inspector Gangadhar Maurya, who was present on the spot, was injured. Policemen have admitted him to a private hospital. where he is undergoing treatment. A large number of district police including GRP, RPF are deployed on the spot. After the demolition, the youth are absconding from the spot. Gangadhar Maurya is in-charge of Tara Jeevanpur outpost of Alinagar police station.

At the same time, the UP Police has started strict action against those who create nuisance against the Agneepath scheme. So far 260 accused have been arrested. Violators have been arrested in 6 districts of UP. In which 109 people have been arrested from Ballia, 70 from Mathura, 30 from Aligarh, 9 from Agra, 27 from Varanasi Commissionerate and 15 from Noida. Apart from this, Section 144 has been implemented in Ayodhya after Ballia. So far 6 FIRs have been registered in UP against those protesting against the ‘Agneepath’ scheme.
