The anticipation surrounding Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film, The Odyssey, is growing with each new piece of information revealed. This historical epic serves as the director’s first film since his Oscar win and features a cast of frequent collaborators. Notably, it marks Matt Damon’s first time starring in a Nolan movie. While many details remain undisclosed, gradually, the character information is being unveiled. Finally, we have the exciting news that Robert Pattinson and Zendaya will be playing significant roles in the upcoming movie.

New images unveiled by Empire Magazine depict The Batman star as Antinous, the arrogant and cruel leader of the suitors in Homer’s Odyssey. On the other hand, Dune franchise star Zendaya is seen alongside Damon as Athena, Odysseus’ advocate, protector, and mentor. These new images serve as a testament to each actor’s exceptional talent and the filmmaker’s meticulous attention to detail.

The upcoming movie will follow the titular character’s journey back home after the Trojan War. Nolan recently revealed that the concept of the feature has been in his mind for a long time. He mentioned that he had actually been hired to direct Troy years ago, and he has been dreaming of this world for decades. However, for Nolan, The Odyssey is more than just a myth. He believes that it encompasses a wide range of stories and contains all the stories that have ever been told.

The film’s grand scope is evident in Nolan’s signature style of practical effects, large-scale stunts, and his unwavering belief in authentic filmmaking. With an estimated budget of $250 million, it stands as the most expensive film in the director’s career. Notably, it marks his first film to be shot entirely on IMAX’s 70 mm film cameras. Reflecting on his motivations, the director expressed his desire to explore uncharted territories in cinematic culture. He was particularly drawn to the mythological works he grew up with, such as Ray Harryhausen’s films, and felt that a big Hollywood, IMAX production could bring a unique weight and credibility to these stories.

Anne Hathaway stars as Penelope, Tom Holland as Telemachus, Pattinson as Antinous, and Charlize Theron, Jon Bernthal, and John Leguizamo also star in the movie. Benny Safdie, Elliot Page, Bill Irwin, Samantha Morton, Jesse Garcia, Rafi Gavron, Shiloh Fernandez, and many more actors are also part of the cast.

The Odyssey, set for a release on July 17, 2026, features new images above. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates on the upcoming movie.
