WORLD HEART DAY : THE LIFEBEAT

By Anshika Khera

World Heart Day is observed every year on 29th September to raise awareness about cardiovascular diseases (CVDs), which remain the leading cause of death worldwide. Initiated by the World Heart Federation, the day emphasizes the importance of heart health and encourages people to adopt preventive measures to reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke.

The theme each year focuses on spreading knowledge about risk factors such as unhealthy diet, lack of exercise, smoking, stress, and excessive alcohol consumption. On this day, health organizations, schools, and communities organize awareness campaigns, free health checkups, fitness sessions, and educational talks to promote healthier lifestyles.

Maintaining heart health is simple yet vital. Regular physical activity, balanced nutrition, adequate sleep, and stress management play a crucial role. Avoiding tobacco and alcohol while monitoring blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar levels are also key preventive steps. World Heart Day serves as a reminder that heart health is in our hands. By making small lifestyle changes and encouraging others to do the same, we can collectively reduce the burden of cardiovascular diseases and ensure healthier, longer lives. A healthy heart truly means a healthier, happier future.
