Will Ex – Barcelona Superstar Lionel Messi finally join Paris Saint-Germain? Read to know more.
Football fraternity went into shock on Friday when they got the news of Superstar Lionel Messi being released by the Barcelona club. Barcelona President Joan Laporta on a press conference confirmed the news that they could not sign Messi to a new contract due to La Liga rules over the size of the salary.
The Barcelona President also revealed that Messi was told two days beforehand that the club would not be able to continue with his new contract. He even said that Messi and The Club reached an agreement on a new contract but Spanish League rules won’t allow Messi to sign due to the club’s financial condition.
Notably, now there is a buzz around that Ex – FC Barcelona superstar and free agent Lionel Messi is very close to signing a deal with Paris Saint Germain. Following Messi’s release news, PSG Manager Mauricio Pochettino has said that Messi is an ‘option ‘ that is being evaluated by the Ligue 1 club.
If this deal works out then we might see Messi’s reunion with his close friend Neymar and fellow countryman Mauricio Pochettino in Ligue 1. Messi’s arrival in Ligue 1 would also mean that PSG would have to end their interest in signing Manchester United Midfielder Pogba.
Interestingly, PSG has also been vocal for a long time about their wishes to sign up Messi since he announced in August 2020 that he wants to leave Camp Nou. For the unversed, Messi has spent his entire professional career at Barcelona after joining the club at the age of 13 and went on to score 672 goals in 778 games across all competitions since making his debut in 2003.
Meanwhile, PSG will have to go some clever financial engineering work to ensure that the Club can sign Messi. As PSG have been busy in the off-season in signing deals with Sergio Ramos from Real Madrid, Gianluigi Donnarumma from AC Milan and Georginio Wijnaldum from Liverpool, all on free transfers.
Messi has ended a long and exceptionally successful career at Barcelona, and now we will have to wait for the official confirmation regarding his future in Ligue 1.
