Well Done Mr. President! Macedonian President walks with down syndrome girl to stop bullying, hailed worldwide

Down syndrome is one of the most common chromosomal condition diagnosed in the United states. It means every year, about 6,000 babies born in the United States have Down syndrome. This means that Down syndrome occurs in about 1 in approx 700 babies. People born with Down Syndrome often face harassment and bullying from others. This problem leads to decline in physical and intellectual growth.

According to the report by CDC, older mothers are more likely to have a baby affected by Down syndrome than younger mothers. This is a very common problem but often a difficult one when it comes to treatment.The prevalence of Down syndrome increases as the mother’s age increases. Bullying in all form is not acceptable as it leaves a unforgettable print in our mind and it is not easy to cope up with the trauma.

President of the Republic of North Macedonia presented a wonderful example against bullying as he escorted an 11-year-old girl with down syndrome to her class after hearing that she was bullied in school. Now, the leader is being hailed for his commendable job and also he encouraged others to take urgent action against bullying.

When President Stevo Pendarovski heard that 11-year-old Embla Ademi, who lives in Gostivar, was facing discrimination at her school. He met her to give support, and ended up accompanying her to her primary school ‘Edinstvo’. He set a wonderful example of true leadership and his message urged everyone to fight against any form of bullying. He also spoke to the girl’s family to understand different kind of challenges she faces regularly including bullying. He encouraged them “in their fight for the protection of the right of children”.

He also shared the video of his meeting with Embla and wrote, “Embla’s case reminds us of the prejudices we live with and the need for greater protection and care for children with disabilities.” Pendarovski futher said, “It is our obligation, as a state, but also as individuals, and the key element in this common mission is empathy. It will help children like Embla, but it will also help us learn from them how to sincerely rejoice, share and be in solidarity.” He gave an exemplary example of change, empathy , compassion and presented what true leadership looks like.
