UP CM Yogi to Rename Allahabad

The concurrent Yogi Adityanath govt. in Uttar Pradesh is likely to take a decision to rename Allahabad as Prayagraj prior to the commencement of Kumbh Mela of 2019, ANI has reported.

The news comes out as the city looks forward to hold one of the very hefty and adorned holy gatherings that is held every 12 years. UP’s Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya confirming the news has said that the name will soon be changed.

Prayag – the meeting point of three major rivers, Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati is what the city is famously known for. It was built in 1583 by Akbar and was a provincial capital in the Mughal Empire. Although the city’s economy was built on tourism, most of its income now derives from real estate and financial services.

This is 2nd most revenue providing district in Uttar Pradesh.
