26 October 2022 (New Delhi):Beautiful hair is the wish of everyone. People use a variety of products, including different types of shampoos, for smooth, long, and shiny hair. Now news has came that cancer-causing chemicals have been found in many shampoo brands by renowned FMCG company Hindustan Unilever. The company has recalled shampoo brands like Dove, Tresemme, Nexus, and Suave from the US market.

The company has also started a website called UnileverRecall.com where people can apply for a product return and get their money back.

What is dry shampoo?

Dry shampoo means shampoo that comes in powder form and is sprayed on the hair. It cleans the hair like a shampoo. After using dry shampoo, you do not have to wash your hair with water. It is claimed that using this shampoo removes the stickiness of the hair and makes the hair look healthy and thick. Many people use dry shampoo to avoid the hassle of washing their hair every day.

How dry shampoo causes cancer ?

According to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), a chemical called benzene has been found in these shampoos, which is believed to cause cancer. When this shampoo is sprayed on the hair, the benzene particles present in it enter the body through the nose and mouth, which can cause leukaemia and blood cancer.

There was also a case of uterine cancer:

Amidst the ongoing controversy over dry shampoo, a woman in the US has claimed that she has cancer of the uterus. She had been using hair products from the same company for a few years. The woman claims that she got uterine cancer from these products. This claim is currently being investigated. The woman has also filed suit. A day before this, in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute, there was talk of a link between the chemicals present in hair products and cancer.
