Tomato Prices have jumped to Rs 80-85 per kg in Delhi. Indian housewives reacts!!

New Delhi: The retail prices of tomato has touched the new heights to Ra 80-85 per kg in Delhi due to slow supply in growing areas.
Since June, the prices of tomatoes were firm i.e. Rs. 50-60 per kg on the basis of variety till last few weeks.
According to the traders, the prices shot up due to low production of new crops.
On Saturday, the price of tomato was shot up to Rs. 80- 85 per kg depending on its quality and residential areas. But according to the government data, the average retail price of tomato is shown Rs. 60 per kg in Delhi.
Azadpur Mandi, Asia’s biggest vegetable market, tomato prices were fixed i.e. Rs. 40- 60 per kg depending on the quality.
Mother Dairy’s Safal vegetable outlets are selling tomatoes at Rs. 78 Per kg whereas e- commerce platforms like Grofers is selling at Rs. 74-75 per kg and Big Basket is selling them at Rs. 75 per kg.
Trade experts said that farmers are selling the tomatoes at Rs 1-2 per kg after economy decline due to COVID-19 pandemic.
A part from that, some crops also destroyed due to heavy rainfall.

“Instead of helping people in this financial crisis caused due to pandemic, government has begin looting people by increasing the prices of tomatoes and other essentials.” – Kiran Katyal, a 51- year old housewife from South Delhi.

“If farmers are selling tomatoes for Rs. 1-2 per kg at the time of production and then these tomatoes are being sold for Rs. 75-80 per kg, then who is earning the profits come from such price gap?”- Deepti Chauhan, a 32- year old housewife from Model Town- 1.
