By Anshika Khera

A man , identified as Deepak , resident of Railway colony in Sheopur , killed his mother on May 6 for money. Deepak was adopted 20 years ago from an orphanage in Gwalior by Ushadevi and her husband Bhuvnendra Pachauri.
His father died in 2021, leaving him as a nominee of a fixed deposit worth 16.85 lakhs , which he lost in stock market. The accused’s mother had 32 lakhs in her account.
When he asked his mother for money , she refused to give it to him. On May 6 when she was climbing up the stairs after bathing , he pushed her down the stairs , hit her with an iron rod and strangled her with a sari. He buried her in the home , beneath the bathroom floor with bricks and cement and to hide his crime, filed a missing complaint of his mother.
But because of inconsistencies in his statements when he said that his mother left for hospital and never returned and registered the complaint on June 8 , the police started a deep investigation which made Deepak confess his crime of killing his own mother.
he District court of Madhya Pradesh sentenced him to death , drawing quotes and learning from Hindu , Islamic, Christian and Sikh scriptures.
Special Judge LD Solanki on Wednesday, pronounced the judgement, stating that the one who holds the responsibility of protecting his parents, vwho is the support of their old age ,if that person becomes the destroyer then why would parents raise such a child? If the fence itself starts eating the crop then whom will the farmer trust? He also underlined that if leniency would have been shown in this case then no childless parents would adopt an orphan, making a bad impact on the society.
Borrowing quotes from Ramcharitmanas, Quran ,Bible , Guru Granth Sahib and reciting the story of Shravan Kumar , he stated the significance of serving the parents and thus sentenced Deepak Pachauri to death by hanging under Section 302 IPC and seven years of rigorous imprisonment under Section 201 IPC for destroying evidence, along with fines of 1000 rs each under each Section. Failure to pay the fine will result in additional six months of rigorous imprisonment for each count.
