- Keralite Priyanca Radhakrishnan sworn in as New Zealand Minister
Kerela native Priyanca Radhakrishnan on Monday became New Zealand’s first-ever Indian-origin minister after Jacinda Ardern brought five new ministers into her executive.
The 41- year- old Priyanca is a two-time MP and has been given three key portfolios which include community and voluntary sector, diversity, inclusion and ethnic communities, youth, and is also an associate minister for social development and employment.
Born in India, Priyanca Radhakrishnan went to school in Singapore before moving to New Zealand to further pursue her education. She has spent her work life advocating on behalf of people whose voices are often unheard-women survivors of domestic violence and migrant workers who have been exploited.
2. Odisha Governor Ganeshi Lal, wife test positive for COVID-19
Odisha Governor Ganeshi Lal and his wife have tested positive for Coronavirus. Apart from the two, five more members of his family have been diagnosed with the infection.
The Governor and his family have been admitted to SUM Ultimate for treatment. Though they are yet to develop any symptoms, they have been admitted to the hospital on the advice of doctors.
3. Shane Watson Announces Retirement from ‘All Forms of Cricket’
Chennai Super Kings and Former Australian all-rounder Shane Watson has announced his retirement from franchise cricket after CSK won their last match against Kings XI on Sunday. Watson told his CSK mates that he would “retire from all forms of cricket”.
The Aussie opener had already retired from international cricket in 2016. After that, He was bought by CSK in 2018 from the auctions. Watson has played a big role with his century in 2018 final that helped CSK win the title for the third time.
4. BCCI announces MPL as the new Kits Sponsors for Indian Cricket Team.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and MPL have signed a three – year deal for Team India’s kit sponsorship. The deal is from November 2020 till December 2023 and the rate per match will be Rs 65 Lakh over the three years.
An apex Council Member of the board confirmed the development and explained the details of the new kit deal with MPL replacing Nike. It is learned that BCCI will always get 10 percent of the royalty from the sale of merchandise.
Earlier Nike had a five-year deal with BCCI where they paid Rs 360 crore from 2016 to 2020 with a 30 crore royalty.
