1 Farmer Leaders call for Bharat Bandh on December 8.
Farmers leader Harvinder Singh Ladkhwal told media outlets after a meeting with farmer unions on Friday that the protestors have decided to call for a Bharat Bandh on December 8.
Ladkhwal added that agitating farmers will return medals and awards on November 7 in protest against the new farm laws.
While demanding the withdrawal of the three new farm laws, farmer leaders said they will burn effigies of the Narendra Modi government and corporate houses on December 5.
2 Captain Kane Williamson’s career-best 251 puts NZ on top VS West Indies in Ist Test.
New Zealand captain Kane Williamson posted a career-best 251 on the second day of the opening test against West Indies in Hamilton on Friday.
Williamson’s 22nd century and third double ton, made up almost half of New Zealand’s first innings total of 519 for seven declared before the West Indies reached 49 runs without loss in reply.
John Campbell was on 22 and Kraigg Brathwaite 20 not out at the close of play at Seddon Park.
3 Tarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashma writer Abhishek Makwana died by suicide.
Television writer Abhishek Makwana, a writer on SAB TV’s popular show Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashma, has died by suicide. In a suicide note recovered by the police, he mentioned ‘financial troubles’ as the reason behind the extreme step.
The Charkop police filed a case of accidental death on November 27 after Makwana’s body was found at his home in Kandivali, Mumbai.
A police official said that a suicide note written in Gujarati was recovered from the spot. Revealing details about the note, he told Mumbai Mirror, “It spoke about difficulties in his personal life as well as financial troubles that he had been facing over the past many months. Apologizing to his family, Abhishek said he tried his best to fight the circumstances but he can’t do it any longer as the problems are only increasing.”
4 Vijay Mallya’s assets worth nearly Rs 14 crore seized in France, says ED.
The French authorities have seized the property of former liquor baron Vijay Mallya worth 1.6m Euros (Rs 14 crore) at the request of the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
“Investigations conducted under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002, have revealed that a large amount was remitted abroad from the bank account of Kingfisher Airlines Ltd (KAL),” the agency said.
The latest seizure of Mallya’s overseas assets comes as India awaits the extradition of the 64-year-old former Parliamentarian from the UK. Mallya is wanted for defaulting on loans worth up to Rs 9,000 crore.
