Diamond League Final: Neeraj Chopra gifted Diamond to India

9 September 2022 (New Delhi): Neeraj Chopra is fast reaching milestones one after another. He made India proud again by becoming First Indian ever to win the Diamond Trophy. He won the prestigious title in the ongoing Diamond League series in Tokyo, Japan. He threw a mammoth 88.44m log shot and finished at the top of the podium. Neeraj surpassed Czech Republic’s Jakub Vadlejch and Germany’s Julian Webber to create history.

The Indian javelin star began with a foul, while Jakub took the lead in the first attempt with a 84.15m throw. However, Neeraj made his comeback in the second attempt, he sent his javelin flying to cover a distance of 88.44 meters. After this Neeraj threw another throw of 88.00m long in his third attempt, followed by 86.11m in his fourth attempt, 87.00m in 5th, and 83.60 in the 6th and final attempt. Three of Neeraj’s throws led him to create history in the finals of the league, making him the first Indian ever to win it.

Neeraj has been creating history since the start of his career. He won the Olympic Gold in 2021, the Asian Games Gold in 2018, the Commonwealth Games Gold in 2018. He also won the World Athletics Championship silver in 2022. He is winning medals back-to-back for India in the International arena. But this is not the first time he entered this tournament. Before this he had competed in two diamond league finals. Where he finished in 7th spot 2017 and 4th in 2018. The historic throw in Laussane was Neeraj’s comeback after missing the Commonwealth Games due to an injury that he faced during the World Athletics Championships in Eugene. Wherein he threw an 88.13m long shot and went on to win a silver medal.
