Mary Kom needs help from centre, posted photos captioning, “My state is burning, kindly help.”
Legendary boxer MC Mary Kom on Thursday sought the Centre’s help to quell the violence that broke out in Manipur. Violence broke out here on Wednesday during a tribal agitation, following which the Army and the Assam Rifles were sent in to control the situation in the state.
The medal-winning boxer took to her Twitter to share pictures of the ongoing violence in the state. In her post, she also tagged PM Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh. Tagging Union Ministers, Mary Kom said- “My state is burning, kindly help.”
India’s female boxer Mary Kom has been an MP of the Rajya Sabha. Talking to reporters about the violence that broke out in her state, she appealed to the government for peace and security. she said- “It is not good to see the situation in Manipur at all. The situation in the state has deteriorated since last night. In this matter, I appeal to the central government to take important steps and provide peace and security in the state. Many people lost their families in the violence. The situation in the state should return to normal at the earliest.”
Violence broke out on Wednesday during a ‘tribal solidarity rally’ called by the All Tribal Student’s Union Manipur (ATSUM) in the Torbang area of Churachandpur district. The march was taken out in protest against the demand of Scheduled Tribes (STs) of non-tribals living in the Imphal Valley. According to a senior police officer, thousands of agitators took part in the rally. During this, clashes broke out between tribals and non-tribals, and the violence spread across the state.
