A woman constable who was posted in Nagpur police was quarantined for suspected COVID-19 infection with a married man whom she was in a relationship with after she wrongly told the authorities that he was her husband, said officials on Thursday.

The officials said the woman constable who is unmarried was to be shifted to isolation center after one of her colleagues recently tested positive for coronavirus.

He mentioned, “however, she told the authorities that her husband who later turned out to be her boyfriend working with Postal Department, should also be quarantined along with her. Accordingly, they were together kept at the quarantine facility in the Police Training Center (PTC)”.

The officials said the man’s real wife who was unaware of his admission to the quarantine center got worried as he had not returned home for three days.

The officers also told that when she later got to know about his affair she went to the quarantine center but was denied to enter by the guards.

After that, she filed a complaint against her husband with Bajaj Nagar police and also met the Commissioner of Police Dr. Bhushankumar Upadhyay in the same connection, after which an inquiry was ordered into the matter.

As per the sources of police, the woman constable and the man had met during a government project last year in October.

DCP Zone II Vivek Masal who conducted the probe said the man was being shifted to another quarantine center.
