Legendary Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos is all set to quit the club after 16 years and four Champions League titles. The club has already announced a press conference that will be held today to bid farewell to the veteran defender.

The announcement follows an injury-wracked 2020/2021 campaign where the 35-year-old Ramos appeared in only 21 games in all competitions, his fewest in a 16- year career at Madrid.

The 35 – year – old is leaving Santiago Bernabeu after a remarkable trophy-laden spell at the club. The club captain joined Real Madrid in 2005 from Sevilla and played over 670 games for the club and won five La Liga titles and the Champions League four times.

Although it is still unknown where the football superstar Sergio Ramos will join next as Manchester United and Paris Saint Germain have both been linked, but he could still stay in La Liga as his former team, Sevilla, are also said to have offered him a five-year deal.

For the unversed Ramos had missed the past season with injuries and was not selected by Spain for the European Championship. The absence of Ramos meant there is not a single player of Madrid in the Spain squad. Ramos is the most capped player in the history of the Spanish national team, having played 180 games. With 23 goals, he is also Spain’s eighth highest all-time goal scorer.

According to Spanish media, Real Madrid and Sergio Ramos have not been able to find an agreement on a possible extension of his contract which will expire on June 30.They were reports that the club wanted him to offer one year deal with a 10 percent cut in salary in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, While Ramos wanted a two-season extension. But they failed to be on the same page.

Star defender Ramos holds the record for the most red cards in La Liga history at 20 and was sent off 26 times in all competitions for Real Madrid.

Moreover, now it will be interesting to see where Serio Ramos will land when he becomes a free agent after June 30.
