Kolkata Puja Pandal Replaces Durga Idol With Migrant Woman to pay tribute to Migrant Workers, Mothers!

A Durga Puja Pandal in Kolkata, West Bengal is paying a special tribute to migrant workers with a statue depicting the Goddess as a migrant mother with her children.

We have seen so many instances of migrant workers carrying their children and walking hundreds of miles back to their homes during the lockdown.

According to a leading daily, the Barisha Club Durga Puja Committee in Behala, Kolkata has decided to install the statue to highlight the plight of migrant workers who were left without jobs and forced to walk hundreds of kilometers to return home as the country went into a coronavirus -induced lockdown earlier this year.

The Barisha Club in the city’s Behala area has selected ‘Relief’ as its theme for celebrations, this year. The Club wants to salute the migrant workers, especially women who fought against all odds.

Along with the main idol, the two other idols will be installed showing the migrant workers walking right behind her. One will be carrying an owl and the other a duck. A fourth sibling will also be seen who will have ahead of an elephant, representing Ganesha. Together, all of them will be seen walking towards an image of Goddess Durga with 10 hands.The idea behind this mesmerizing design is of an artist Rintu Das.

As the Country continues to battle coronavirus, Barisha Club has said on Facebook that this year, people will be able to enjoy Durga Puja digitally
