The Kerala Government has announced two days mourning in the sports department of the state to give respects to the legendary football player Diego Maradona who died of heart attack at 60 on Wednesday in his home at Buenos Aires.
While remembering the late Arjentine football player, Chief Minister of Kerala Pinarayi Vijayan said, “The people of Kerala are among the football fans across the world pained by the death of legendary player Maradona.”
Sports Minister of Kerala EP Jayarajan announced the two days of official mourning on November 26 and 27.
“After Arjentina, Maradona has the largest number of fans in Kerala. During any World Cup his posters are found in large numbers in this tiny state,” said CM.
The veteran footballer also visited Kerala in October 2012 for a private event. Kerala is also known for its craze for football and it was a golden opportunity for fans to see a glimpse of their favourite hero from close quarters in Kunnur.
