Jaipur: MBBS Student Endures Four Dialysis Sessions After Ragging Incident; Seven Individuals Booked
In Jaipur, a first-year MBBS student from Dungarpur Medical College had to undergo dialysis four times after allegedly being subjected to severe ragging by senior students last month, leading to a kidney infection, according to police reports. The incident, which took place on May 15, involved seven second-year students who forced the victim to perform over 300 sit-ups at a location near the college, as stated by Girdhari Singh, SHO of Dungarpur Sadar police station. This extreme physical exertion resulted in significant pressure on the student’s kidney, causing it to malfunction and become infected. The victim was subsequently hospitalized in Ahmedabad for a week, during which he underwent four dialysis sessions. Although the student is now stable and rejoined the college in June, the ordeal has had a profound impact on him.
Following an investigation by the anti-ragging committee of the institute, the college principal filed an FIR against the seven accused students on Tuesday. The inquiry found the senior students guilty of the allegations. The victim, who had enrolled in the college in September last year, had experienced ragging previously but did not report it. The recent incident came to light when a complaint was submitted through the college’s online portal on June 20, prompting the investigation.
The FIR has been registered against the seven students under several sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 143 (unlawful assembly), 147 (rioting), 149 (offense committed in the prosecution of common object), 341 (wrongful restraint), and 352 (assault or criminal force otherwise than on grave provocation). The matter is currently under investigation, as confirmed by the SHO.
