India Strengthens Bid to Host 2030 Commonwealth Games

By Abhishek Kumar

India is now getting very close to hosting the 2030 Commonwealth Games. Ahmedabad is the main city planned for this big event. The government is giving full support, and preparations are already moving fast.

Recently, a Commonwealth Sports delegation came to Ahmedabad to check stadiums, transport, hotels, and other facilities. This visit will help India make a strong bid before the 31 August 2025 deadline.
The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) will take the final call in its upcoming Special General Meeting. After Canada withdrew from the race, India has become a strong favourite to win the hosting rights.

Ahmedabad already has world-class stadiums like Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Sports Enclave and Naranpura Sports Complex. These venues are also part of India’s long-term dream to host the 2036 Olympics.
India’s bid also includes bringing back some popular sports removed from the 2026 edition — hockey, badminton, wrestling, shooting, table tennis, squash, archery, and women’s cricket. This move is likely to attract more players and fans from all over the world.

The plan is to organise the Games in a cost-effective and eco-friendly way. Most of the existing venues will be reused to save money and protect the environment.
The 2030 edition will also be the 100-year celebration of the Commonwealth Games, making it even more special.

The final decision will come in November 2025 during the Commonwealth Sport General Assembly in Glasgow. If India wins, it will be another big step towards hosting the Olympics in 2036.
