In an old video, Billie Eilish is ‘appalled and embarassed’ in a resurfaced video for using a racist slur.

Billie Eilish apologizes regarding a modified video that resurfaced on TikTok, in which the artist appears to mouth an anti-Asian slur. After a video of Billie Eilish mouthing a racist slur directed at Asian people circulated, the singer has issued an apology. She said she was “13 or 14” when she mouthed a term from a song she didn’t realize was derogatory at the time.

Following internet backlash and calls to boycott the Bad Guy singer after seeing the old clip, Eilish finally addressed the issue through her Instagram story!

“I mouthed a word from a song that at the time I didn’t know was a derogatory term used against members of the Asian community. I am appalled and embarrassed and want to barf that I ever mouthed along to that word,” she said in a statement.

She ended her lengthy apology by urging her supporters to take action. She said “”continue having conversations, listening and learning. I hear you and I love you. Thank you for taking the time to read this.”

Eilish also addressed another video in which she was accused of ridiculing accents, claiming that this was not the case. She clarified it by stating “the other video in that edited clip is me speaking in a silly gibberish made up voice” and added “something I started doing as a kid and have done my whole life when talking to my pets, friends, and family”

On the work front, the Grammy Award winner Billie Eilish’s second studio album, Happier Than Ever, is set to be released on July 30, 2021, through Darkroom and Interscope Records. It comes after Eilish’s debut album, When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?, released in 2019.
