October 16 marks the birth anniversary of Hema Malini, a legendary icon of Indian cinema, famously known as the “Dream Girl” of Bollywood. According to her IMDb profile, she was born on October 16, 1948, and has carved an indelible mark in the world of films through her versatile acting, dance, and style.

Malini’s film journey began in 1963 with Tamil cinema, but she gained widespread fame with her Bollywood debut in 1968’s “Sapno Ka Saudagar” where she starred opposite Raj Kapoor. Her performances in major films like “Sholay” (1975) and “Seeta Aur Geeta” (1972), which earned her the Filmfare Award for Best Actress, established her as one of the leading actresses in Bollywood.

Known for her mesmerizing dance and elegant style, she appeared in numerous hit films alongside Dharmendra, whom she married in 1980. The couple appeared together approximately in 28 films, creating a legacy of romantic chemistry on screen. Besides acting, Malini has also directed and served in prominent roles, including as Chairperson of the National Film Development Corporation from 2000 to 2003.
