Happy birthday PV Sindhu: Have a look at the five unknown facts about the Badminton Superstar.

The name PV Sindhu needs no introduction. Pusarla Venkata Sindhu, a global badminton superstar, has been sensational for India on the world stage for a long time now as she keeps getting better and better each year.

Sindhu, through her numerous titles at the international level made sure that she becomes one of the biggest sports stars of India, rivaling the stardom that only a cricketer dreams of in this country.

The Ace Shutter has bagged a pile of medals and achievements to her name. She is the first Indian to become the Badminton World Champion and the first Indian woman to earn an Olympic silver medal. She rose to a career-high World Ranking of No.2 in 2017. She is just the second woman in the world after Zhang Ning to win more than five medals at the World Championship.

In addition to World Championship, PV Sindhu has won superseries titles in China, South Korea, and India. She has also won a silver medal each at the 2018 Commonwealth Games and 2018 Asian Games and two bronze medals at the Uber Cup.

Moreover, PV Sindhu has been awarded with Arjuna Award, Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna, and India’s fourth-highest civilian award, the Padma Shri. She was also honoured with Padma Bhushan, the third-highest civilian award in India in January 2020.

But the aforementioned things are something many of us are aware of PV Sindhu. So on the occasion of PV Sindhu’s 26th birthday, here we present you five unknown facts about the ace shuttler.

1. She is the daughter of an Arjuna Awardee Volleyball Player.

Sports is in the gene of P.V. Sindhu as her father P.V. Ramana was a professional volleyball player. PV Ramana was awarded the Arjuna Award in 2000 for his contribution to Indian Volleyball. Notably, her mother Vijaya too was a professional national-level volleyball player.

2. Pullela Gopichand is her inspiration.

The winning of Pullela Gopichand in the All England Open Badminton Championship in the year 2001 inspired her to start playing badminton. Initially she too wanted to play volleyball, but Gopichand’s win inspired her to take up badminton.

3. Her first apprenticeship was with Mehboob Ali.

PV Sindhu began her apprenticeship with Mehboob Ali. It was in Secunderabad Andhra the badminton courts of Indian Railway Institute of Signal Engineering and Telecommunications. It was under Mehboob Ali she learned the basics of the game, and then she later started coaching with Pullela Gopichand at the Pullela Gopichand’s Academy and is coaching there to date.

4. Dedication Personified.

Although we know about her success story at large, there are many people around who don’t really know the efforts she has put into the same. Sindhu used to travel 56 km every day to reach her coaching center in Hyderabad and it once happened that she missed her sister’s marriage to attend a Grand Prix at Lucknow.

5. She is a foodie and a movie buff.

You will certainly be surprised with this fact but this lanky badminton player from Hyderabad is a foodie by heart. PV Sindhu loves Italian and Chinese food to the core and she is a big fan of Hyderabadi biryani as well.

Although she has to stay away from all this to be fit during the matches all around the year, but she sometimes feeds her cravings, whenever she gets time from her pack schedule. Apart from food, PV Sindhu is a big-time movie buff and fan of famous Indian Actors Hrithik Roshan, Mahesh Babu, and Prabhas.
