Norovirus is a new virus found in Kerala. Read the full story to know more about this virus and it’s preventions :

Kerala minister Veena George asked on Friday to be vigilant and issued guidelines after Norovirus, a highly contagious stomach bug that cause highly range of symptoms and causes a range of symptoms in Wayanad district.

This animal borne disease was found in 13 students of veterinary college Pookode in Vythiri in Wayanad district two weeks ago.

What is Norovirus?

Norovirus is a gastrointestinal illness including inflammation of linking of the stomach and intestines and severe vomiting and diarrhea.

Norovirus does not significantly affects but it is quite serious among young children and the elderly people.

Norovirus is easily transmitted through close contact of people who have been affected by contaminated surfaces. It can also be prepared or handled by stomach bug. The virus had been spread through excrement or vomit of infected person.

Symptoms of Norovirus:

Following are some symptoms of Norovirus if you have any of them then please visit to the doctor :
• Diarrhea
• Abdominal pain
• High temperature
• Headache
• Body aches

According to the experts acute vomiting and diarrhea may lead to dehydration which may also lead to further complications.
Prevention of Norovirus.

According to Kerala health monastery guidelines those who are infected with this disease should stay at home and drink oral rehydration solution (ORS) and boiled water.
People should wash their hands thoroughly before eating and after using the toilet “Those who interact with animals should pay special attention.”

The guidelines further added that water resources used for public drinking such as wells etc.. should be chlorinated with bleaching powder and people must use chlorinated water for their own domestic use and drink boiled water.

Fruits and vegetables should be eaten after washing them properly. Sea fish and cranberry can only be eaten after they are well cooked. Stale and exposed food must be avoided.
