Geeta and Babita Phogat’s 17-year-old Cousin Sister Ritika Phogat commits suicide after losing the Wrestling Tournament Finals.

An unfortunate story surfaces from the Indian Wrestling Fraternity as Ritika Phogat, the maternal cousin of Babita Phogat and Geeta Phogat Allegedly has committed suicide after losing the final match of the Wrestling Tournament in Bharatpur on Wednesday.

Part of the famous Phogat Family, Ritika was playing the state level sub-junior women and men wrestling tournament where she lost the final on March 14 by 1 Point and took her own life after not being able to bear the loss.

The Dronacharya Awardee Mahavir Phogat, the father of the Phogat sisters was also said to be present at the tournament.

Ritika Phogat who was just 17 years of age had won many domestic as well as a regional championship in wrestling. A resident of Jaitpur village in Rajasthan’s Jhunjhunu, Ritika had been learning and practicing Wrestling for over five years at Mahavir Phogat, a Dronacharya awardee’s wrestling academy.

Reacting to the situation, Union Minister Vijay Kumar Singh has termed the incident as terrible news.

For the unversed Phogat sisters have carved a name for themselves in the sporting community after making India proud multiple times on international platforms.

The journey of Babita Phogat and Geeta Phogat is well known to Indians across the country by the movie ‘Dangal’ as Geeta and Babita Phogat had won gold and silver at the 2010 Commonwealth Games that were held in Delhi.

Meanwhile, their younger sister Ritu Phogat has been spotted playing remarkably in MMA these days and recently their cousin Vinesh Phogat has won gold in Wrestling Championships and is India’s biggest medal hopes from the Tokyo Olympics.
