Election Results 2024 Live Updates: Modi Poised for Third Term? NDA Takes Early Lead Over INDIA in Lok Sabha Poll Counting

In New Delhi, after an extensive six-week voting process that spanned seven phases, the counting of votes for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections has commenced amid stringent security measures. This election, the second-longest since India’s inaugural election in 1951-52, saw voting take place between April 19 and June 1 across 543 Lok Sabha constituencies.

Each constituency elects one representative to the Lower House of Parliament, and any party or coalition must secure at least 272 seats to achieve a majority and form the government. Early trends typically begin to emerge within an hour of the start of counting, with final results expected by the afternoon. According to poll officials, the counting of votes from Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) will commence 30 minutes after the counting of postal ballots.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has ambitiously set a target of winning 370 seats for itself and 400 seats for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). The BJP’s campaign was spearheaded by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was highly active on the campaign trail, participating in over 200 public engagements, including rallies and roadshows.

Meanwhile, the Congress party, which has faced a series of electoral defeats and defections, is part of the Opposition bloc INDIA, which is challenging the BJP. The INDIA bloc’s strategy included joint rallies by various Opposition leaders, symbolizing a united front against the BJP. This electoral battle between the BJP and the INDIA alliance is not just a fight for parliamentary seats but also reflects a broader ideological confrontation that will shape India’s political landscape.
