The police have now arrested 110 people in the merciless killing of two saints of Juna Akhara in Palghar district of Maharashtra. A case has been registered by the police against these accused in serious sections. There are also 9 minors out of 110 people. All the accused have been kept in police custody till April 30, while the minors have been sent to the shelter home.
On Wednesday, Sage Sushil Giri of an ashram in Kandivali, Mumbai, was going to Surat to attend his Guruji’s funeral procession in a rented vehicle along with two of his companions. On the day of the incident, both sadhus were going from Mumbai to Gujarat via Interior Road. At around 10 pm on Wednesday night, his vehicle was stopped by a sentry of the forest department in Gadchichale village of Palghar, on the border of Maharashtra and Dadra and Nagar Haveli.
In fact, for the last few days, there was a rumor in the area about the fact that the gangs were active at night for harvesting and stealing the child. During this time, when Sushil Giri was already talking to the sentry of the forest department, then someone made a rumor about him being a thief. After this, a crowd of dozens of people broke down on both the sadhus and beat them mercilessly.
During this time, the most embarrassing thing was that the whole incident happened in the presence of 10 to 15 policemen. The accused also attacked a driver and policemen along with the sadhus. After the attack, the sadhus were rushed to the hospital, where they were declared brought dead.
The Sant Samaj is very angry after the incident of mob lynching with sadhus. Mahant Narendra Giri, president of Akhil Bhartiya Akhara Parishad, warned the government about the incident that if the action was not taken on the killers, there would be agitation against the Maharashtra government. BJP MP Sakshi Maharaj has also tweeted and demanded the imposition of the National Security Act (Rasuka) on the accused. If not, he also warned the Maharashtra government to face the wrath of the sadhus.
