Jharkhand to provide period labs in school:
Today, schools have not only science labs but periods labs as well. Periods Lab has been started in the schools of Jharkhand keeping in mind menstrual hygiene.
Noamundi is a town on the border of Odisha, 64 km from Chaibasa, a tribal-dominated district of Jharkhand. The menstrual lab opened in Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya here has changed the routine of girl students.
At 4.30 in the evening, when the girls return from the race, they get many facilities in the period lab. In case of stomach cramps, fomenting with a hot water bottle provides relief. In case of severe pain, there is also a provision for medicine. Sonali, a student of class 8, says that earlier we did not come to school during periods. Now there is no problem in coming to school. We take a rest in the lab itself. There is also a bed here. Now we don’t have to worry about running home even when we have periods in class.
Apart from setting up periods labs in schools, wall painting is also being used to talk about menstruation. The menstrual cycle has been explained through wall painting. Girls are now knowing that it is not something to hide. Now the daughters talk about this. Swarna, who is working on menstrual hygiene, says that there is a talk on menstrual hygiene in schools once a week. There is also a WhatsApp group, in which information related to menstrual hygiene is shared.
