Deadly bombing attack outside Pakistan Holy Shrine Data Darbar, 10 killed and 20 injured

During the holy month of Ramadan there is a major deadly attack took place at the Pakistan’s Holy Shrine Data Darbar based in Lahore. More than 10 people had been killed, 20 had been injured and admitted to hospital. Data Darbar is a holy shrine built in the 11th century, the Data Darbar is the burial site of the saint Ali Hajveri and is one of the largest Sufi shrines in South Asia. Tens of thousands of pilrims visit the site each spring on the anniversary of the saint’s death. 

Deadly Bomb attack details:

  • The bomb exploded near security forces guarding the shrine.
  • Lahore’s police chief said his officers were the intended target.
  • At least eight people have been killed so far, a police official told a news conference.
  • Among the dead are police officers, a security guard and a civilian.
  • The Pakistani Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack.

The bombing took place Wednesday morning in Lahore, the provincial capital of Punjab. Police officials said the bombing destroyed a van carrying police commandoes who were providing security at the shrine.

“It was an attack on police that left several dead and dozens of policemen and civilians injured. The target was police,” said Syed Mubashir Hussain, a spokesman for the Lahore police.

Last suicide attack held at holy shrine Data Darbar was in 2010 that left over 40 people dead. Militants in Pakistan are often use to of conducting bomb attacks at holy shrines during spiritual mass visit as they believe that people who die during the period of Ramadan, their soul will rest in piece at paradise.
