Clanging for Accountability: Cockroach Janta Party Repurposes Covid-Era Symbol at Massive Jantar Mantar NEET Protest

A Satirical Symbol Defying the System
The protest took an unconventional turn following a social media broadcast by CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke. In his video message, Dipke urged all participants to arrive equipped with a thali (plate) and a chamach (spoon).
“All the cockroaches joining tomorrow’s protest at Jantar Mantar should carry a thali and a chamach with you. You know the rest of the story,” Dipke stated. The tactic directly flips Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s March 2020 pandemic-era appeal, where citizens clanged utensils to honor frontline workers, transforming it instead into a sharp tool of political satire against systemic educational failures.
Core Demands and Growing Momentum
The Internet-born outfit, which was established on May 16, 2026, has seen exponential growth amid rising outrage over competitive exam paper leaks and consecutive student suicides. Activists, parents, writers, and prominent figures, including noted climate activist Sonam Wangchuk, joined the agitation to vocalise three non-negotiable mandates :
- Ministerial Sacking: The absolute and immediate removal of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
- Financial Restitution: An open letter sent by Dipke to the Prime Minister demands ₹1 crore in compensation for the families of the 11 students who ended their lives due to exam-related stress.
- Systemic Overhaul: Complete structural transparency and a total revamp of the National Testing Agency’s (NTA) operational guidelines.
Earlier, CJP spokesperson Saurav Das had issued a public call inviting independent musicians, singers, and visual artists to use the Jantar Mantar platform to turn the demonstration into an expression of peaceful creative resistance.

Delhi Police Blankets Jantar Mantar in High Security
Given the immense traction of the “Chalo Dilli” campaign, the Delhi Police deployed extensive crowd-control protocols across central Delhi. Officials installed multi-layered barricades and strategically positioned security personnel at major transit hubs, including the Indira Gandhi International Airport and central metro stations.
Delhi Police equipped on-ground teams with more than 270 body-worn cameras to monitor the situation in real time. They also deployed dedicated video recording units to ensure the assembly remains peaceful.
Conclusion
The timing of the Cockroach Janta Party’s utensil-clanging demonstration exerts maximum political pressure. This protest arrives just one day before 24 lakh students sit for the high-stakes Re-NEET examination on June 21. The youth movement converted an ordinary household item into a loud instrument of dissent. By doing this, they effectively ensured that the public cannot easily ignore the voices of India’s struggling student community. Whether this unique manifestation of public outrage will force immediate policy shifts inside the Education Ministry remains to be seen.
