Chhattisgarh suspends vaccination for the 18-44 age group

The Chhattisgarh government has suspended the third period of the COVID-19 vaccination drive for individuals between 18 to 44, after the high court’s order to change the arrangement that focused on vaccination of the financially more vulnerable areas of society. The State government has established an advisory group headed by the State’s Chief Secretary to finish a new arrangement to circulate antibodies in the third stage in an impartial way.

The State government in anorder on April 30 said vaccines will be first given to the Antyodayagroup (poorest among poor), trailed by those in the below poverty line (BPL) class and afterward to individuals in the above poverty line (APL) group, in the third phase of the drive that started on May 1.

Hearing the intercession applications challenging the State government’s decision, the Chhattisgarh High Court on Tuesday guided the State government to fix the proportion of apportioning of vaccination impartially.

The court has coordinated to change the State’s April 30 request and said the State government should fix a sensible proportion for apportioning of immunizations to the Antyodaya gathering and people having a place with the BPL and APL classifications, he said. It will require some investment for the board of trustees to present its suggestions and to settle the new vaccination plan, the authority said.

“Continuing the inoculation drive for the Antyodaya group will amount to a violation of the court’s order and therefore, the vaccination for the age group of 18 to 44 years is being suspended,” he said.
